Takeshi Yabe serves as a Junior Associate Professor at the Department of Drug Discovering Sciences, Kitasato Institute for Life Sciences, Kitasato University, Tokyo, Japan. He received his B.A. degree from Tokyo College of Pharmacy in 1989 and his Ph.D. degree from Science University of Tokyo in 1997. His doctoral thesis on the antidementia effect of Japanese herbal medicines was carried out in the laboratory of H. Yamada at the Kitasato Institute, Tokyo, Japan. He did his postdoctoral work with Dr. J. P. Schwartz at the Neurotophic Factor Section, National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, USA, investigating the functions of neurotrophic factors expressed in reactive astrocytes. His research group is now focusing on the molecular mechanisms of various neuroprotectants. His research interests include the analysis of PEDF as a CNS neuroprotectant and development of natural herbal products as drugs acting on central nervous system.
