Jianan Zhang

Jianan Zhang is an Associate Professor at the Institute of Nuclear and New Energy Technology in Tsinghua University. He took his Ph.D. degree in biochemical engineering in 1999 at the National Key Laboratory of Biochemical Engineering in Institute of Process Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China, and finished his postdoctoral research work in biochemical engineering at the Department of Chemical Engineering in Tsinghua University in 2001. He founded bioenergy and biorefinery lab at the Institute of Nuclear and New Energy Technology in 2005. He has once worked as a Visiting Scholar at the University of Waterloo in Canada in 2005. His main research interests are bioenergy (bioethanol, biodiesel, biobutanol), biochemical engineering, utilization of lignocellulose biomass, environmental biological technology, and so forth. He has published about more than 80 papers in international and Chinese conferences and journals and applied for about 25 Chinese invention patents. Moreover, he has published two books entitled Utilization Technology of Biomass Bioenergy and Introduction of New Energy as an Editor and a partner. In addition, he is the Director of the Chinese Energy Association and Chinese Association for Biomass Energy, respectively. He is also a Reviewer of international journals such as Bioresource Technology, Biochemical Engineering Journal, and Process Biochemistry and Chinese journals such as Journal of Chemical Industry and Engineering, Journal of Chemical Engineering of Chinese Universities, and The Chinese Journal of Process Engineering. He has won the First Prize of Chinese Association for Petroleum and Chemical Engineering in 2006. He supervises research work of graduate students and teaches lesson on biomass energy for graduate students in Tsinghua University.
