Ichiro Nakashima graduated in medicine (M.D. degree) in 1994 and internal medicine (Ph.D. degree) in 1999 at Tohoku University in Sendai, Japan. He has since 2001 been part of the Neurology staff in Tohoku University Hospital. In addition to this, Dr. Nakashima holds the position of Assistant Professor at Tohoku University School of Medicine and is a Certified Member of the Japanese Society of Neurology as well as a Councilor of the Japanese Society of Neurology, Neuroimmunology, and Neuro Therapeutics. Dr. Nakashima has won several awards including the Young Neuroimmunologist award 2005 (Japanese Society of Neuroimmunology) and Japan-McGill Scholar Award (McGill University, 2007). Dr. Nakashima has authored or coauthored more than 50 peer-reviewed publications since 1998. Dr. Nakashima’s publications cover MS, OSMS, NMO, and his major research projects cover areas like significance of oligoclonal IgG bands in MS and roles of B cells in the pathogenesis of MS.
