Hakan Yaman was born in Antalya, Turkey, in December 31, 1970. He graduated from the University of Akdeniz, Medical School, Antalya, Turkey (1995) and Department of Family Medicine, Ankara Numune Teaching Hospital, Ankara, Turkey; and then became a Specialist of family medicine in 2000. He was awarded an M.S. degree in physical education and sports sciences by the Institute of Health Sciences, Physical Education and Sports Sciences Program of the University of Akdeniz, Antalya, Turkey. He has been working since 2000 as an Assistant Professor of Sports Medicine at the Department Of Sports Medicine, Suleyman Demirel University, Medical School, Isparta, Turkey, and became in Spring 2003 an Associate Professor of Family Medicine and established the Department of Family Medicine, University of Akdeniz Medical School, where he is working now as the Chair and a Founding Faculty. In the Summer of 2009, he was awarded the title of Full Professor at Akdeniz University. He is a Member of the World Association of Medical Editors, American Academy of Family Physicians, European Rural And Isolated Practitioner's Association (Euripa, National Representative), European Academy of General Practice Teachers, European General Practice Research Network, European Society of Primary Care Gastroenterology, Primary Care Diabetes, Turkish Society of Family Physicians. He has an experience with the following medical publication and scientific activities: the Turkish Medical Association, CME Accreditation Board Member (1998–2001), the Journal of CME, Turkish Medical Association, Ankara, Turkey (Member of Editorial Board, 1997–2002), and Member of Scientific Advisory Board, 2002-present). Dr. Hakan Yaman has several published papers on issues concerning the development of academic family medicine in Turkey, family medicine training, family physician burnout, continuing medical education and epidemiology in international peer-reviewed journals.
