Amy Shen received her Ph.D. degree in theoretical and applied mechanics from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, Ill, USA, in October 2000. From 2000 to 2002, she was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Harvard University, Cambridge, Mass, USA. Shen is an Associate Professor at the Mechanical Engineering Department, University of Washington, Seattle, Wash, USA, and serves as the Director of Soft Matter and Microfluidics Laboratory. Shen's research is focused on microfluidics, complex fluids, rheology, and their applications in nanotechnology and biotechnology (i.e., biosensing and biomaterials). She received the Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Award in 2003 and the National Science Foundation Career Award in 2007. Shen is also an honor Member of Phi Kappa Phi and Pi Tau Sigma.
