Francesco Nardi graduated in 1998 specializing in biology and obtained his Ph.D. degree in animal biology in 2001 from the University of Siena, Siena, Italy. He trained the fields of molecular evolution, phylogeography ,and the analysis of molecular data at the Joint Genome Institute and the University of Siena, where he currently holds a Postdoc position. Starting with a strong background in DNA lab. and genotyping procedures, he specialized in the application of molecular markers and the analysis of genetic data in an evolutionary interpretative framework. He has been working on different issues in molecular evolution, insect phylogeny, phylogeography, and invasion genetics, from the early diversification of animal phyla to contemporary virus dynamics. Thanks to a recent interest in biostatistics and programming, he has developed and implemented some novel approaches to molecular dating and mutation data analysis. His specialties are development of molecular markers and genotyping, molecular evolution, genetic data analysis, bioinformatics, and (mitochondrial) genome evolution.
