Enrique Gómez-Barrena received the Ph.D. degree in 1992 from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Madrid, Spain, and the M.D. degree in 1987 from Universidad de Zaragoza, Zaragoza, Spain. Gómez-Barrena completed his Internship and Residency in orthopaedic surgery in 1987–92 at Hospital La Paz. Since 2010, he is Full Professor and Chair of Hospital La Paz, Madrid, Spain. He served as Vice Dean of Universidad Autónoma de Madrid Medical School in 2005–2011. In 2000–2010 he worked as Associate Permanent Professor of orthopaedic surgery at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. He occupied the position of Staff Orthopaedic Surgeon at Fundación Jiménez Díaz Hospital, Madrid, Spain, in 2000–2007, at Hospital Ntra. Sra. De Gracia, Zaragoza, Spain, in 1996–2000, and at Hospital La Paz in 1993, 1995–1996. His areas of expertise are orthopaedic surgery, bone and joint reconstruction, knee and hip surgery, arthroplasty, orthopaedic implants, UHMPWE, bioceramics, and regenerative medicine of bone.
