Fernando A. Branco
Fernando A. Branco works as a Full Professor at the Civil Engineering Department, IST–Technical University of Lisbon, Lisbon, Portugal, since 1996. In 1976, he graduated in civil engineering (structures) from IST–Technical University of Lisbon, in 1981 and 1985, he obtained an M.A.S. degree in civil engineering (structures) from University of Waterloo, Waterloo, ON, Canada, and a Ph.D. degree in civil engineering (structure) from IST–Technical University of Lisbon, respectively, and in 1991 he received the title of Agregado in civil engineering (structures), from IST–Technical University of Lisbon. Branco’s fields of expertise are bridge design, maintenance, and rehabilitation and new materials. He was the President of Civil Engineering Department at IST–Technical University of Lisbon from 2007 to 2009, and he is the Director of the Construction Section, since 2004. Branco was also, from 2004 to 2007, a Member of the Portuguese Council for Public Works (CSOPT) and, since 2008, the President of the Portuguese Association for Structural Engineering. His professional activity includes being the Manager and Director of AXIS, Ltd., Civil Engineering Consultants, and President of CONSTRULINK, SA, Construction Information Technologies. He was rewarded many honors including Merit Award of the Technical University of Lisbon in 2008.
