Dimos Baltas was born in Kyparissia, Greece, in 1961. He received a degree in physics (summa cum laude) from the National Kapodestrian University of Athens, Greece, and the Ph.D. degree from the Ruprecht Karls University, Heidelberg, Germany. From 1985 to 1987, he was awarded a Scholarship by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) for the research field of biophysical models-based treatment planning of radiotherapy of cancer. He works, since 1996, as an Associate Research Professor at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), Institute of Communication and Computer Systems, Athens, Greece, and since 2005 as an Honorary Scientific Associate at the Nuclear and Particle Physics Section, Department of Physics, University of Athens, Greece. He is a Member of DGMP, AAPM, DEGRO, ESTRO, and ABS Scientific Associations. Since April 2005, he is a Member of the Executive Committee of the State Medical Quality Assurance Institute in State Hessen, Germany, in the field of radiation therapy. Since 2005, he is a Member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Journal Strahlentherapie und Onkologie, Journal of Radiation Oncology, Biology, and Physics. He serves as a Physics Editor of the Journal of Contemporary Brachytherapy, and since 2007, he is a Member of the GEC-ESTRO Committee. He has published 127 papers, authored two books, and edited two books.
