Philippe Maincent was born in Laval, France, in 1953. He received the Pharm.D. degree from the Faculty of Pharmacy in Rennes (France) and the Ph.D. degree from the Faculty of Pharmacy in Paris XI (France), in 1977 and 1982, respectively. He spent a one-year postdoctoral training period at the College of Pharmacy at the University of Texas at Austin in 1982-1983. In 1983, Maincent was offered an Associate Professor position, in pharmaceutical technology, at the Faculty of Pharmacy in Nancy (France). Presently, he is a Full Professor at the same university. He is mainly interested in drug delivery and more particularly in nanotechnologies (nanoparticles and microparticles). In 1994, he was appointed as an expert for quality at the French Drug Medical Agency (Afssaps) where he is still very active. During his years at Afssaps, he was the head of different quality groups. He is the author or coauthor of more than 100 international publications, 3 book chapters, and 3 patents. He is also the Associate Editor of Drug Development and Industrial Pharmacy and a Member of Board of the Journal of Microencapsulation.
