Uroš Potočnik received an M.S. degree in molecular genetics (1998) and Ph.D. degree in molecular biology and biochemistry (2001), both from the Medical Faculty, University of Ljubljana. He spent 3 years (2002–2005) as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the National Institutes of Health/National Cancer Institute, USA. Potočnik is the Founder and Head of “Center for Human Molecular Genetics and Pharmacogenomics (CHMGF)” at the Medical Faculty, University of Maribor, Slovenia http://www.mf.uni-mb.si/chmgf. The major goal of the CHMGF research plan is to achieve internationally recognized research excellence in the fields of molecular biology, molecular genetics, and genomics and pharmacogenomics in medicine. The aim is to enhance interdisciplinary approach including bioinformatics, clinics, molecular biology, and molecular genetics to identify molecular, genetic, and pharmacogenomic biomarkers for common immune complex diseases. CHMGF is working together with clinicians. Dr. Potočnik is a principal investigator in nationally funded and bilateral research projects. He is an Associate Professor at the University of Maribor and is teaching several undergraduate and postgraduate courses including molecular biology, pharmacogenomics, bioinformatics, and genetics and genomics in medicine. He is mentoring several Ph.D. students involved in postgraduate program of biomedical technology at the Medical Faculty, University of Maribor. He published more than 170 papers including 27 papers in SCI peer-reviewed journals with high impact factor.
