Birgitta Langhammer is currently Associated Professor at Oslo and Akershus University College, where she holds an academic position with teaching, administrative, and research responsibilities, since 2001. Langhammer is also affiliated as a researcher to Sunnaas rehabilitation hospital and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. Langhammer obtained her Ph.D. degree in 2007 with her thesis “Physiotherapy after stroke: a life-time endeavor.” Her research career has focused on rehabilitation after stroke. In particular, she has completed high-impact studies examining the contribution of motor impairments to physical disability and has several publications in early and late rehabilitation of stroke. Langhammer has participated in the development of the Norwegian National Guidelines for Stroke Care and Neuroplan 2015, the Ministry of Health and Care Services plan for neurological patients in community care. Langhammer is currently active in clinical trials of rehabilitation in the community services and multicenter projects.
