W. Harnett obtained the B.S. degree with honors in immunology and the Ph.D. degree in biochemistry from the University of Glasgow and undertook postdoctoral research at the Division of Parasitology, National Institute for Medical Research, London. He was appointed as a Lecturer in immunology at the University of Strathclyde in 1991 and serves currently as a Professor of molecular immunology and as the Head of Research within SIPBS. His research areas include antibody structure and function, immunochemistry of antigens and antibodies, generation of the antibody and T cell receptor repertoire, and parasitology and immunology of helminth infections.
