Joel Rech serves Professor at the Ecole Nationale d’Ingénieurs de Saint-Etienne, University of Lyon (Saint-Etienne, France). He received his Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Arts et Métiers (Paris, France). After ten years serving as the Head of the Department of Manufacturing Engineering, he now works Vice-Dean for Education at the ENISE. He still leads a research team in the Laboratory for Tribology and Systems Dynamics (LTDS) in the field of machining processes. He is concerned with the surface integrity induced by machining processes (residual stresses, microstructure, and surface texture) and with the design of cutting tools (friction, heat partition, wear), through experimental and numerical investigations. He serves as a member of the editorial board for three international journals. He has more than 200 articles in refereed international journals and conferences.
