Politecnico Di Milano, Italy

Pietro Cavallotti is a Professor Emeritus of metals science at Politecnico Milano. He is the President of the International Union of Surface Finishing and an Organizer of World Interfinish at Politecnico di Milano in November 2012, the President of the European Academy Surface Technologies (EAST), Schwabisch Gmund D, the President of the Italian Metal Finishing Society (AIFM), and an Editor of the scientific journal AIFM Galvanotecnica e Nuove Finiture. He was a coordinator of a number of successful European and Italian research programs. Moreover, he has won a number of prizes, among them, Montecatini Gold Medal for results of studies in chemical engineering (1963), O. De Nora Prize for thesis degree on cobalt electrodeposition (1964), C. Ferrari Prize for researches in powder metallurgy (1971), Silver Medal for a paper published in plating and surface finishing (1989), International Prize “Palermo per l'Europa” for Science (1989), IBM Italy acknowledgement for patents and collaboration (1998), Johnson Matthey Silver Medal of the IMF (2001), International Copper Medal of the AIM (2002), DGO Award for international cooperation (2005), Distinguished Service Award (Gold Prize) of the Korean Institute of Surface Engineering (2007), Certificate of Excellence International Conference on Corrosion and Modern Technology in the Military, Bucharest (2007), and Hothersall Memorial Award and Medal of the Institute Metal Finishing (2009). His research fields regard statistical thermodynamics of alloys and magnetic materials, high-temperature materials behavior, exposure behavior of nonferrous metals, metallic coatings on surfaces, autocatalytic chemical (electroless) plating, alloy electrodeposition and structure, electrodeposition for electronics, complex chemical reactions at surfaces, powder metallurgy, materials for magnetic recording, and permanent magnets. He has published about 200 scientific papers and 50 patents regarding materials and metallurgy.
