Fanglai Zhu received his bachelor degree from Guangxi University, Guangxi province, China, in 1986, his master degree from Southeast University, Nanjing, Jaingsu province, China, in 1993 and the Ph.D. degree in control theory and control engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China, in 2001. He worked as an associated professor and professor from the year 1998 to 2005, 2005 to 2007, respectively, both in computer and control department of Guilin University of Electronic Technology, Guilin, Guangxi province, China. Since July, 2007, he has been working as a Professor in the College of Electronics and Information Engineering of Tongji University, Shanghai, China. Now he has published over 80 papers and over 30 papers have been indexed by SCI or EI. In 2005, he gained the honour of one of the 100 Young and Middle-Aged Academic Leaders in Guangxi Higher Education Institutions. In 2011, he gained the third prize of Natural Science issued by Shanghai Government. He is frequently invited as a reviewer by many famous academic journal or conference, including ‘IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control’, ‘Automatica’, ‘Asian Journal of Control’ and ‘American Control Conference’ and so on. His primary areas of research are nonlinear observer design, chaotic synchronization based on observers, fault detection and isolation based on model, iterative control.
