J. Javaraiah works as a Reader in the Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Bangalore, India. He holds a Ph.D. degree in physics from Bangalore University, Bangalore, India, with a thesis entitled "Study of the Sun's rotation and solar activity." His field of research and experience include solar physics: Sun's rotation, meridional flow, sunspot rotation, solar magnetic field, solar activity, solar cycle, solar cycle prediction, and Sun-Earth connection; experience in time series analysis using Fourier transforms and related methods such as spherical harmonic Fourier analysis, maximum entropy method (MEM), and Wavelet analysis; extensively analyzed large data sets on sunspot groups and flows on Sun's surface. Javaraiah has published 23 papers in international peer-reviewed journals and 29 papers in conferences proceedings, edited a book entitled The Sun's Rotation, and reviewed about 25–30 papers submitted to MNRAS, The Astrophysical Journal, New Astronomy, and other journals. He is the Lead Guest Editor of a special issue on "The Solar Cycle" in the journal Advances in Astronomy, Hindawi Publishing Corporation, USA. Javaraiah visited GONG/National Solar Observatory (NSO), Tucson, Ariz, USA, attended 20–25 scientific meetings, and presented research papers. He is also a Life Member of the Astronomical Society of India (ASI).
