Svein Ivar Mellgren
Svein Ivar Mellgren received the M.D. degree from the Medical School, University of Oslo, Norway, in 1968. Mellgren is authorized as a Norwegian physician in 1970. Mellgren obtained the Ph.D. degree at the University of Bergen, Norway, entitled “Enzyme histochemical studies in the hippocampal region of the rat,” in 1973. Mellgren serves as a specialist in neurology since 1980. Mellgren works as the Chairman and a Professor at the Department of Neurology, University Hospital of North Norway, Tromsø, and the Department of Clinical Medicine, University of Tromsø, from 1981 to 1997. Mellgren worked as a Professor of neurology, Institute of Clinical Medicine, University of Tromsø, in 1997 and as the Head of the Department of Clinical Medicine, University of Tromsø from 2008 to date. Mellgren served as a visiting scientist at the Peripheral Nerve Research Laboratory, Department of Neurology, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn, USA (for 12 months, 1987-1988). Mellgren is a Member of the Norwegian Medical Association and of the Norwegian Neurological Society. Moreover, Mellgren serves as a Corresponding Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology. Mellgren is an Active Member of the European Neurological Society and a Member of the Peripheral Nerve Association. Mellgren works as the Vice President of the UEMS Section of Neurology and European Board of Neurology 2010. Mellgren's main research interests are peripheral nerve diseases and multiple sclerosis.
