Zhong-Rong Zhou was born in Zhejiang, China, in July 1965. He obtained his B.E. degree of mechanical engineering from Southwest Jiaotong University (SWJTU) in 1986, his M.E. and Ph.D. degrees of materials engineering from Ecole Centrale de Lyon (France) in 1988 and 1992, respectively. He then pursued postdoctoral research (1993–1995) at the Mechinical Engineering Department at the Laval University, Canada. He was an Invited Professor at Ecole Centrale de Lyon (1995–1997). In 1997, he returned to China to establish the Tribology Research Instititue and he was appointed as a Professor of mechanical engineering. Now he is the Director of the School of Mechanical Engineering of SWJTU. Since 1987, Zhou focused his research on tribology and surface engineering. More than 80 scientific papers on fretting wear and fretting fatigue, biotribology, rolling contact, and friction-induced noise have been published in various international journals, and his work has been frequently cited in more than 30 international journals. In addition, he has organized two international conferences in China, and his international activities go well beyond the usual participation.
