Romeo Bernini received the Laurea degree (summa cum laude) in electronic engineering at the University of Naples Federico II, Naples, Italy, in 1995 and took his Ph.D. degree in electronic engineering from the Second University of Naples, Italy. During 2000, he has been Research Fellow at the Second University of Naples. In the 2001, he joined the Institute for Electromagnetic Sensing of the Environment (IREA) of the National Research Council of Italy (CNR) where he is currently a Senior Researcher. His main fields of interest include optoelectronic, optofluidic sensors and devices, optical fiber sensors, and nondestructive characterization of semiconductor and dielectric materials. He is author of more than 75 international journal papers and acts as reviewer of several international journals. He is member of the IEEE photonic society. In 2001, he received the best Doctoral Thesis Award in Optoelectronics of the IEEE-LEOS Italian Chapter.
