Alexander Timokha obtained his Ph.D. in fluid dynamics from Kiev University in 1988 and, later on, a full doctor of physics and mathematics degree (habilitation) in 1993 at the Institute of Mathematics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. From 1994, he is Professor of Applied Mathematics at Institute of Mathematics, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (Kiev, Ukraine). In 2004-2012, he has been Senior Scientist & Visiting Professor at Center of Excellence "Centre for Ships and Ocean Structures" & Department of Marine Technology of Norwegian University of Science and Technology, (NTNU, Trondheim, Norway). In addition to the permanent Professor position in Kiev, from 2013, he is permanently affiliated at the Centre of Excellence "Autonomous Marine Operations and Systems", NTNU, Trondheim, Norway. In the 1980s, A.N.Timokha was involved as a consultant of hydrodynamic aspects of spacecraft applications for the famous design offices of Yuzhnoye and Salut. He remains Leading Researcher and Professor of Applied Mathematics at the Institute of Mathematics of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Prof. Timokha’s current research interests lie in mathematical aspects of hydromechanics with emphasis on free-surface problems. He has authored more than 170 publications and 4 books.
