Alexander Timokha obtained his Ph.D. degree in fluid dynamics from Kiev University, Ukraine, in 1988, and, later on, a Full Doctoral degree in physics and mathematics (habilitation) in 1993 from the Institute of Mathematics, the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Kiev, Ukraine. Since 1994, he has been a Professor of applied mathematics at the Institute of Mathematics, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Kiev, Ukraine. From 2004 to 2012, he was a Senior Scientist and a Visiting Professor at Centre of Excellence “Centre for Ships and Ocean Structures” and Department of Marine Technology, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Trondheim, Norway. In addition to the Permanent Professor position in Kiev, since 2013, he has been permanently affiliated at the Centre of Excellence “Autonomous Marine Operations and Systems,” NTNU, Trondheim, Norway. In the 1980s, Timokha was involved as a Consultant of hydrodynamic aspects of spacecraft applications for the famous design offices of Yuzhnoye and Salut. He is still a Leading Researcher and Professor of applied mathematics at the Institute of Mathematics, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Professor Timokha's current research interests lie in mathematical aspects of hydromechanics with emphasis on free-surface problems. He has authored more than 170 publications and 4 books.
