Peng-Yeng Yin received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in computer science from the National Chiao Tung University, Hsinchu, Taiwan. From 1993 to 1994, he worked as a Visiting Scholar at the Department of Electrical Engineering, The University of Maryland, College Park, MD, USA, and at the Department of Radiology, Georgetown University, Washington, DC, USA. In 2000, he served as a Visiting Professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of California, Riverside, CA, USA. From 2006 to 2007, he worked as a Visiting Professor at Leeds School of Business, University of Colorado, Boulder, CO, USA. From 2004 to 2006, he served as the Chairperson of the Department of Information Management, National Chi Nan University, Taiwan, and he currently assumes the position of the Dean of Research and Development. Yin is a Member of the Phi Tau Phi Scholastic Honor Society, and he is listed in Who Is Who in the World, Who Is Who in Science and Engineering, and Who IS Who in Asia. He has published more than 100 academic articles in reputable journals and conferences including IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering, Pattern Recognition, and Annals of Operations Research. Yin serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Applied Metaheuristic Computing. His current research interests include evolutionary computation, metaheuristics, pattern recognition, content-based image retrieval, relevance feedback, machine learning, and computational biology.
