Gelu Popescu

Gelu Popescu was born in Lugoj, Romania. He received his B.S. degree from West University of Timisoara, in 1982 and his M.S. degree from University of Bucharest, in 1983. From 1983 to 1991, he served as a Researcher at Institute of Mathematics of the Romanian Academy (former INCREST). He received his Ph.D. degree, in 1993, from Texas A&M University, USA. Currently, he works as a Professor of mathematics at the University of Texas at San Antonio. His research interests include operator theory and operator algebras, multivariable operator theory, and noncommutative harmonic analysis and interpolation. He was awarded the Simion Stoilov prize of the Romanian Academy of Sciences, in 1989, and received numerous research grants from USA.
