Henrike Sell was born in Germany in 1977. She pursued undergraduate studies in biochemistry at Freie Universität Berlin in Germany and received M.S. degree in biochemistry from Université Laval in Québec, Canada. In 2004, she joined the German Diabetes-Center, where she received Ph.D. degree in 2007. Since 2008, Sell is leading a junior research group presently funded by the German Research Council. Her research interests comprise adipokines in adipose tissue biology and the crosstalk of adipose tissue with different organs. His research is, currently, focused on the role of adipokines in skeletal muscle insulin resistance and vascular dysfunction in the context of obesity-associated metabolic diseases. In addition, the identification of novel adipokines and myokines is a core area of interest of her collaborative research.
