Francesco Pilati was born in 1946; he received his Laurea (Degree -MSc) in Chemistry at the University of Bologna in 1970. Since 1972 he was appointed as researcher at the University of Bologna. In 1985 he was appointed as Associate Professor of Macromolecular Chemistry at the University of Bologna and in 1994 as Full Professor of Macromolecular Chemistry at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, where he is currently Heah of the Department of Materials and Environmental Engineering and is doing his research and teaching activities. The area of expertise include: Synthesis and characterization of polymeric materials, in general, and of polyesters and polymer blends in particular; Preparation and characterization of functional coatings, including hybrid coatings, with purpose to include/improve functionalities such as wettability, cratch, thermal-oxidation and flame resistance, barrier against gas diffusion, antibacterial activity; Development of molecular architectures for sensors and shape-memory polymers; Preparation and characterization of surface-porous films by the breath-figure method; Preparation and characterization of organic-inorganic core-shell nanoparticles.
