Constantinos M. Paleos is the Former Vice President of the Board at NCSR “Demokritos” and is the Former Director at the Institute of Physical Chemistry, NCSR, “Demokritos”. Paleos received a Diploma in chemistry from the University of Athens, Greece, in 1964. From 1966 to 1970, Paleos studied and graduated from Pennsylvania State and Drexel Universities, USA, and obtained a Ph.D. degree in chemistry from the Drexel University, Philadelphia, PA, USA, in 1970. In 1970, Paleos joined Standard Oil Co., Amoco Chemicals, where he worked as a Project Chemist and was nominated as a Consultant at Motor Oil from 1971 to 1973. Paleos was a Visiting Professor at the University Louis Pasteur, Strasbourg, France, from 1991 to 1992. Then Paleos was elected as a Research Director at NCSR “Demokritos” from 1973 to 2007. Since 2007, Paleos is a Consultant in collaboration with the Institute of Physical Chemistry “Demokritos” and Regulon AE. Paleos' fields of research and current research interests are the following: supramolecular liquid crystals, biomimetic liquid crystals, and liquid crystals based on functional dendrimers; molecular recognition between complementary liposomes and also between liposomes and monomeric or polymeric molecules; development of liposomes and application as drug delivery systems; development of dendritic polymers for application as drug/gene delivery systems and molecular transporters; application of functional dendritic polymers for application as nanosponge materials for water purification; adhesion, fusion, and multicompartment systems formation in interacting vesicles.
