Jiri Kobr graduated from the Pediatrics Faculty of the Charles University in Prague in 1975. From 1975 until 1996, he worked at the regional hospital in Trutnov, where he spent one year at the surgery department where he became familiar with the basics of this branch of medicine. After that, he started to focus on pediatrics and urgent medicine. In pediatrics, he has passed the speciality exam of the 1st (1979) and 2nd degrees (1985). He finished his special training in children cardiology with the extra specialty exam (1996). His interest in urgent medicine brought him to the emergency unit at which he was a member for 15 years. For 2 years, he was the leader of the regional center of the emergency service in Trutnov. From 1991 to 1996, he worked as the Head of the Department of Pediatrics, Trutnov Hospital. In 1997, he accepted the offer to work in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of the Department of Pediatrics at the Faculty Hospital in Plzen. Since 1999, he has been working as an Assistant and 2006 as an Associated Professor at the Medical Faculty of the Charles University in Plzen. In 2006, he has passed the speciality exam in intensive medicine. Since 2006, he has been working as a Vice Dean for science and foreign relation at the Faculty of Medicine in Pilsen, Charles University in Prague, and since 2007 as the Clinical Head of the Department of Paediatrics, Faculty of Medicine and Faculty Hospital in Pilsen. His job consists of teaching students and taking part in the research program. The medical faculty in Plzen offers ideal conditions for the experimental work. With the surgery team, he explores the options and conditions of the successful kidney transplantation from non-heart-beating donors on sucking pigs. The results of the research have been successfully used in the human clinical praxis.
