Juan F. San-Juan is currently a Full-Time Professor at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science in University of La Rioja (Logroño, Spain), where he teaches and conducts research in the fields of computer science, astrodynamics, celestial mechanics, and scientific computation. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in mathematics at University of Zaragoza, Zaragoza, Spain, in 1996 for his dissertation on “ATESAT: Automatization of theories and ephemeris in the artificial satellite problem.” ATESAT was a package for the automatic generation of analytical theories and its corresponding orbit propagator programs. From 1990 to 2002 San-Juan developed several tools in the fields of algebraic manipulators and orbit propagation using perturbation techniques applied to the artificial satellite problem. The development of most of these tools was supported by the French Space Agency, Centre National d'Études Spatiales. He possesses long experience related to the development and implementation of analytical and semianalytical theories in the field of artificial satellites. His research interests include classical perturbation theories, perturbation theories based on Lie-Deprit transformations, analytical and semianalytical approach to the artificial satellite, planetary satellites, and satellites. His scientific activities also include works on algebraic manipulation, symbolic calculus, and high performance computation based on both CPU and GPUs. Currently San-Juan is leading an e-research project named Astrodynamics Web Tools. It is an ongoing collaborative Web Tools computing infrastructure project to support scientific computation in the fields of astrodynamics and celestial mechanics. Astrodynamics Web Tools provides project collaborators with all the technical and human facilities in order to access, manage, and use specialized noncommercial software tools, with the aim of optimizing the use of resources, both human and material.
