Elena G. Yarmola0000-0002-1038-8892
Elena Yarmola is a biological physicist with multi-disciplinary research experience. Her main areas of expertise include biophysics, structural biology, biochemistry, cell biology, immunology and nanotechnology. Elena received her Ph.D. in molecular biophysics from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. She holds faculty appointments with the Departments of Medicine and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Florida. Most recently, Dr. Yarmola has been studying the regulation of actin polymerization. Actin is a protein that plays a central role in cell motility and division. Interactions of actin with numerous actin-binding proteins create a variety of possibilities for fine tuning actin polymerization and cell motility. Dr. Yarmola also works on applying nanotechnology to osteoarthritis treatment and early diagnostics.
