Janne Raula received an M.S. degree in chemistry from the University of Helsinki, Helsinki, Finland, in 1997. Dr. Raula finalized the M.S. thesis on the synthesis of electrically conductive oligothiophenes in Laboratory of Organic Chemistry at University of Wales in 1995-96. Dr. Raula accomplished the doctoral thesis in 1997-2002 in Laboratory of Polymer Chemistry at University of Helsinki on the synthesis of water-soluble, thermosensitive block, and graft copolymers, and study of their self-assembly in dilute aqueous solutions. From 2003 Dr. Raula held a Postdoctoral position in Aalto University, School of Science. The work includes the preparation of pharmaceutical nano- and microparticles by aerosol means and study of the properties of powders such as stability, flowability, dispersibility, and functionality. The main focus is on the development of carrier-free drug powder formulations for inhalation therapy. Dr. Raula was appointed in 2008 as the Docent of the Laboratory of Polymer Chemistry, the University of Helsinki. Dr. Raula lectures a course on the use of polymers in medical applications. Dr. Raula is also the owner and CTO of a spin-off company Teicos Pharma.
