Fausto J. Pinto
Fausto J. Pinto is a graduate of Lisbon University Medical School. He did his Cardiology Fellowship at Santa Maria University Hospital and then moved to Stanford University Medical School (Calif, USA), where he stayed for 3,5 years at the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine. He was a Postdoctoral Fellow and then Clinical Attending in the Echocardiography Laboratory. He also did an Interventional Fellowship at the same institution. Currently, he works as a Professor of cardiology at Lisbon University Medical School. He is the President of the Association for Research and Development of the Faculty of Medicine (2004–2010). He is also the Director of Lisbon Cardiovascular Institute since 1999. In addition, he is the author or coauthor of over 135 papers, over 800 presentations, original or invited. He is a Member of several scientific societies, where he has been appointed for several leading positions. He was the President and Founder of the European Association of Echocardiography (a registered branch of the European Society of Cardiology 2002–2004). Pinto is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC), American Society of Angiology (FASA), Society for Cardiac Angiography and Interventions (FSCAI), and a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (FESC). He is the Honorary Member of several societies, including the American Society of Echocardiography, Societé Française de Cardiologie, Romanian Society of Cardiology, Societá Italiana di Ecografia Cardiovascular. He is in the Editorial Board of several international journals and is currently the Editor-in-Chief of the Portuguese Journal of Cardiology (since 1999). He was granted several awards and honours. Furthermore, he served in the Board of the European Society of Cardiology as Councillor (2004–2006) and Chair of CPC (2008–2010). He is a Member of the Board of EBSC (European Board for the Specialty of Cardiology 2006–2010). Presently, he is the current Chairman of the CPC (Congress Program Committee) of ESC(2008–2010).
