Des Tobin PhD is Professor of Cell Biology and Director of the Centre for Skin Sciences (CSS) at the University of Bradford. He also severs in Faculty as Associate Dean for Research and Knowledge Transfer. CSS is the largest academic center for skin sciences in Britain. He works on the basic and applied science of skin and hair follicle pigmentation, immunologic disorders of the hair follicle, hair growth and hair growth inhibition. Des conducted his PhD studies at the Division of Biochemistry and St. John’s Institute of Dermatology, St. Thomas' Hospital and his post-doctoral training/Assistant Research Professor in Dermatology Dept. of Dermatology, New York University Medical School, New York. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists [FRCPath], Fellow of The Institute of Biology (UK) [FIBIol], Fellow of The Institute of Trichologists (Lond.), and is currently Vice-President of the Institute of Trichologists, and Treasurer of the European Hair Research Society. He serves on the editorial boards of Experimental Dermatology, Veterinary Dermatology, the International Journal of Cosmetic Science, Faculty of 1000 Medicine (Pigmentation) and is executive editor of the new journal, the International Journal of Trichology. Prof. Tobin serves on scientific advisory boards of personal and medical care companies and consults for several personal care companies. He has published widely with over 130 publications including books.
