Frank H. W. Tost was born on July 31, 1960, in Halle (Saale), Germany. He works at present as a Professor in ophthalmology at the University Eye Clinic, University of Greifswald, Greifswald, Germany. Since 1998, he works as a leading ophthalmic consultant and deputy director. He graduated in medicine in 1987 at the Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg, Halle, Germany. He wrote a thesis on “expressivity of prenatal-toxic, CPA disorders of the eye.” After training as an Ophthalmologist at the University Eye Hospital in Halle, he was appointed as lecturer of clinical ophthalmology in Halle/Saale. He was invited to get a professorship in Greifswald. Since 1998, he works as a Professor at the University Eye Clinic, University of Greifswald, Greifswald. He has received several awards for his research including the Hermann-Wacker-Award of German Society of Ophthalmology. He is a member of several scientific societies (EVER, DOG, DEGUM, and EFSUM) and a Founding Member of the CURAC. He was involved in the organization of various meetings (German Society of Ophthalmopathology (DOP), DGII, among others) and he has been invited to international conferences as a speaker such as SOE, Istanbul, Turkey. Professor Tost is a Member of SORC of German Society of Ophthalmology. He published about 100 scientific papers, most of them concerning telemedicine, ophthalmopathology, cytology, immunology, pharmacology, ultrasound, oculoplastic surgery, and ocular surface disorders. Papers by and his coworkers were presented at many meetings. From 2002 up to now, Tost is a Member of the national council of DEGUM (German-Speaking Society of Ultrasound), in the Section of Ophthalmology. He received, in 1989, Hermann-Wacker Award from German Society of Ophthalmology, in 2002, Award of Dry Eye Research from German Society of Ophthalmology, in 2006, Richard-Merten Award, in 2007, Venture Sail Award, and, in 2009, Medical Prize of European Association for Computer Graphics.
