Alessandro Sgambato obtained his degree in Medicine (summa cum laude) at the University of Naples, Naples, Italy, in 1991. Afterwards he obtained a Specialization in oncology at the Catholic University of Sacred Heart, Rome, Italy (1997), and a Ph.D. in oncology at the same university (2000). He has been Visiting Scientist in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics, Case Western University, Cleveland, OH, USA (in 1992); Visiting Scientist at the Consorzio Mario Negri Sud, Laboratory of Cellular and Molecular Endocrinology, Group of Gene expression, S. Maria Imbaro (CH), Italy (1993); and Postdoctoral Research Scientist at the Columbia Presbyterian Comprehensive Cancer Center, Columbia University, New York, NY, USA (from 1994 to 1996). From 2000 to 2010, he has been University Researcher (Assistant Professor) at the Institute of General Pathology, "Giovanni XXIII" Cancer Research Center, Catholic University, Rome, Italy. He is currently Associate Professor at the Institute of General Pathology at the same university. Professor Sgambato has pursued a constant and intense research activity in cancer research which includes both basic and translational researches. During his intense research activity Dr. Sgambato has produced numerous papers including more than 130 on peer-reviewed international cancer journals and reviews, in addition to book chapters and communications to national and international meetings.
