MAJOR RESEARCH INTEREST Molecular, morphological and functional biodiversity of benthic organisms; chemical ecology of benthic assemblages, sponge biomineralization, population genetics, biomarkers of environmental impact, larval development, behaviour and dispersal; environmental modulation of gene expression. SUMMARY OF SCIENTIFIC ACIVITIES More than 150 publications in specialised international journals. Editor of Scientia Marina. Guess editor of international books and journals on sponge biology and silica deposition in sponges. More than 35 grants received funded by the EU, and Spanish agencies. Supervisor of 14 PhDs. 65 oral presentations in international Symposia.
