Cláudio M. Gomes is Group Leader at the Instituto Tecnologia Quimica e Biologica (ITQB) in Oeiras, Portugal. He was born in 1970, graduated in chemistry and biotechnology at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Lisboa, Portugal, in 1994, joined the Gulbenkian Ph.D. program in biology and medicine in 1994-1995, and got a Ph.D. degree in biochemistry at ITQB in 1999. Until setting up his independent laboratory in 2003, he was an Assistant Professor at the Faculdade de Ciencias e Tecnologia, Universidade Nova de Lisboa, where he started teaching in 2000. He serves as a Member of the scientific committee of the EU project INTERBIO and has regular activity as a referee in over 25 international journals. The scientific activity of his group focuses on structural biology and biophysics of protein folding and misfolding, with an emphasis on metal-binding proteins and metal ions. Dr. Gomes has recently edited the book Protein Folding and Metal Ions: Mechanisms, Biology and Disease, CRC Press (USA) and has published over 75 peer-reviewed papers. His current h-index is 20.
