Jacques Ghijsen achieved the Ph.D. degree in physics in from the University of Namur, Belgium, in 1983. Dr. Ghijsen held prestigious positions in many institutes such as the European Institute for Transuranium Elements (1983-1984), Max Planck Institute for Solid State Physics (1984–1987), University of Groningen (1987–1989), and Hiroshima University (1996-1997). He has been serving as a Scientist at the Belgian Fund for Scientific Research (FRS-FNRS), based at University of Namur since 1989. His research interests include electron spectroscopies (UPS, XPS, XAS) using laboratory sources or synchrotron radiation.
