Lienhard Schmitz studied biology at the Universities of Göttingen and Freiburg (Germany). After completing his Ph.D. degree in molecular genetics (1990), he joined the Lab of Patrick Baeuerle at the Gene Center Munich, where he started his work on the inducible transcription factor NF-kB. After his Habilitation degree at the Medical Faculty of the University of Freiburg (1997), he continued his research as a Group Leader in the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in Heidelberg. Between 2002 and 2005, he was a faculty Member at the University of Bern (Switzerland), and since 2005, he works as a Full Professor for biochemistry at the University of Giessen.
