Magali Cucchiarini is a Principal Investigator and Group Leader at the Center of Experimental Orthopaedics of the Saarland University Medical Center, Homburg/Saar, Germany. She is an Associate Professor in molecular biology and has received her Ph.D. degree in life sciences from the University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis, Nice, France. She has been a Postdoc Fellow at BIDMC, Harvard Medical School, Boston, Mass, USA. She has several ongoing projects in the areas of gene and cell therapy and regenerative medicine to treat disorders of the human musculoskeletal system, including osteoarthritis and cartilage defects. The focus of her work is based on the development of therapeutic gene vectors derived from the adeno-associated virus, using both committed and progenitor cells using various in vitro, in situ, and in vivo animal models of the diseases.
