Paulo Martins received his Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), Universidade Técnica de Lisboa, Portugal, in 1991 and received his Habilitation in 1999 in recognition of his work in the numerical and experimental simulation of metal forming processes. He currently serves as a Professor of manufacturing at IST, Portugal. His research interests include metal forming and metal cutting. He coauthors five books, several national and international patents, and over 250 papers in international journals and conferences. He is an Associate Member of CIRP (International Academy for Production Engineering) and belongs to the editorial board of several international journals.
