Detlef Kip is the Chair of Experimental Physics & Materials Science, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Helmut Schmidt University, Hamburg, Germany. He received a Ph.D. degree in physics and a Habilitation degree in applied physics both from the University of Osnabrück, Germany, in 1993 and 1998, respectively. He also received a diploma in physics from Wilhelms University Muenster, Germany in 1990. He worked as a Research Assistant, University of Osnabrück (1990-1993), a Senior Research Assistant, University of Osnabrück (1993-1998), a Privatdozent at the University of Osnabrück (1998-1999), a Postdoctorial Research Associate at Princeton University in 1999, a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Technion, Israel in 2000, a Chair, Institute of Physics, Clausthal Technical University, Germany (2002-2009), and a Chair, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Helmut Schmidt University (2009 to date). His research areas include applied physics, experimental physics, nonlinear optics, integrated optics, photonics, material sciences, photonic materials, nanomaterials, and optical sensors. He has various publications: 3 books, several book chapters, and a 100 and more refereed publications.
