Sebastian Ventura was born in Cordoba, Spain, in 1966. He received the B.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Cordoba, Cordoba, Spain, in 1989 and 1996, respectively. Currently, he serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Numerical Analysis, in the University of Cordoba, where he is the Head of the Knowledge Discovery and Intelligent Systems Research Laboratory. He is the author or coauthor of more than 150 international publications and the editor of 3 books. Ventura has also been engaged in 11 research projects (being the coordinator of two of them) supported by the Spanish and Andalusian governments and the European Union, concerning several aspects of the areas of evolutionary computation, machine learning, and data mining and their applications. His current research interests are in the fields of soft computing, machine learning, and data mining and their applications. Dr. Ventura serves as a Senior Member of the IEEE Computer Society; Computational Intelligence Society; Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Society; and the Association of Computing Machinery.
