Eric Le Bourhis

Université de Poitiers, France

User Biography : Prof Eric Le Bourhis After a two-years teaching stay in Lima (Peru), Eric Le Bourhis prepared his PhD at Paris VII University when he started investigations of the thermomechanical properties of semiconductors. He joined Evry University for 1 year as an assistant professor and then the Saint Gobain Research and Development (R&D) team at Aubervilliers for 4 years as an engineer. During this industrial period he applied contact mechanics to the glass surface and to the coatings that are developed for glazing. He joined Poitiers University in 1998 where he is professor of Materials Science and head of the SI-MMEA PhD school. He promotes sol-gel hybrid coatings in close collaboration with Glass industrial manufacturers while his other research activity focuses on the small-scale mechanical properties (thin films and small structures) employing both nanoindentation and tensile tests under synchrotron x-rays. He recently published a book covering these fields (Glass: Mechanics and Technology, Wiley, 2008). He has co-organized 3 French indentation workshops (JMC9-Nancy 2004, SF2M-Angers 2004, Matériaux 2010-Nantes), 2 MRS and 1 EUROMAT symposia (‘Fundamentals of Nanoindentation and nanotribology IV’ and ‘Plasticity in Confined Volumes: Modeling and Experiments’ Boston 2007 & 2009, ‘Mechanical characterization of small-scale structures and advanced nanostructured materials’ Montpellier 2011). He was the Co-chairman of the EDS2008 international conference (Poitiers).
