Paola Parrella was born in Formia (LT), Italy, in 1967. She received the M.D. degree (summa cum laude) and the specialty degree in clinical pathology from the Facoltà di Medicina e Chirurgia, Università Cattolica, Rome, Italy, in 1993. From 1993 to 1998, she was a Research Fellow at the Pathology Department, Università Cattolica, Rome, Italy. From 1998 to 2002, she was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Division of Head and Neck Cancer Research at The Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, USA. From 2002 to 2008, Parrella was a Senior Researcher at the Laboratory of Oncology, IRCCS Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza Hospital, San Giovanni Rotondo (FG), Italy. Since 2008, she has been a staff scientist at the Laboratory of Oncology, IRCCS Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza (FG), Italy. Dr. Parrella is the principal investigator and coinvestigator of several grants related to biomarkers development, and her central focus of research is in the area of cancer biology and biomarker development for breast cancer and brain tumors.
