Louis Mercuri has received a D.D.S. degree and an M.S. degree. He is a 1970 Cum Laude graduate of Georgetown University School of Dentistry, Washington, DC. He received his certification and M.S. degree in oral and maxillofacial surgery from the University of Illinois, Chicago, IL, USA. He has served as Faculty at the Virginia Commonwealth University College of Dentistry in Richmond and Chairman of the Department/Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Chicago Michael Reese Hospital and Medical Center, University of Illinois Chicago College of Dentistry and Loyola University Chicago Medical Center. Presently, he serves as the Clinical Consultant for TMJ Concepts, Ventura Cali, USA. Dr. Mercuri is a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS) and a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. Dr. Mercuri has been awarded the 1997 Skaggs and 2006 Harrigan lectureships and is a 2009 recipient of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Foundation’s Research Recognition Award and the 2010 William J. Gies Distinguished Achievement Award from AAOMS for his investigative and clinical endeavors related to alloplastic TMJ replacement. He was awarded Fellowship of the Congregation in the Academic Centre for Oral Health at the National Dental Centre of Singapore and has been elected into the Faculty of Dentistry of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. Dr. Mercuri is an Honorary Founding Member in the European Society of Temporomandibular Joint Surgeons and serves a Member of the Board of Directors of the American Society of Temporomandibular Joint Surgeons.
