Kazuyoshi Ikuta received the Ph.D. degree from the Osaka University, Osaka, Japan, in 1979, in the field of virology. His current position is a Professor and Head at the Department of Virology, Research Institute for Microbial Diseases, Osaka University. He is also working as a Director at the Mahidol-Osaka Center for Infectious Diseases (MOCID) that was established in 2010 as a collaboration center by the Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University and the Research Institute for Microbial Diseases, Osaka University. He has worked on several viruses, such as poxvirus, herpesvirus, retrovirus (murine leukemia virus and HIV), Borna disease virus, and prion. Ikuta is also involved in guaranteeing the safety of blood products from contamination with several viruses. Ikuta's current areas of expertise are dengue virus and influenza virus as collaboration work with Thailand and Egypt.
