Lucio Tremolizzo

Lucio Tremolizzo received his M.D. degree from the University of Milano, Italy, in 2000, and Ph.D. degree in neuroscience from UNIMIB, University of Illinois at Chicago, Ill, USA, in 2003. He is a specialist in neurology (UNIMIB, 2008) and works at the Memory Clinic and at the ALS Center of the “San Gerardo” Hospital, Monza, Italy, as a neurologist, coordinating, at the same time, the scientific activity of the Laboratory of Neurobiology, leaded by Professor Carlo Ferrarese, at the Department of Neuroscience and Biomedical Technologies, UNIMIB. From 2001 to 2003, Dr. Tremolizzo has been investigating the epigenetic modulation of schizophrenia vulnerability genes as a new therapeutic approach for this disorder, working with Professor Erminio Costa and Professor Alessandro Guidotti at the University of Illinois at Chicago. From October 2005 to February 2006, Dr. Tremolizzo has been at the Institute of Neurology “Queen Square” in London, UK, obtaining the Diploma in clinical neurology. During the same period, he has been an Honorary Research Assistant at the Department of Clinical Neuroscience of the Royal Free and Medical College of London working with Professor Anthony H. Schapira. Since 2000, Dr. Tremolizzo has carried out a fruitful research activity, leading to more than 100 presentations to national and international meetings, and more than 60 peer-reviewed papers (including Neurology, Brain, Biol Psychiatry, PNAS). He is also member of several scientific societies, which have sponsored his participation to meetings and small research projects. Moreover, he has been invited repeatedly as an ad hoc reviewer by several scientific journals and for communicating his results to meetings. His current research focuses on developing peripheral biochemical markers of neurodegenerative diseases, with special reference to neurodegenerative diseases.
