Mohammad Owais, a Ph.D. degree holder, has been an Associate Professor at Interdisciplinary Biotechnology Unit, AMU, Aligarh, since 1998. He obtained his Ph.D. degree from IMTECH, Chandigarh. He remained associated with NIH, Bethesda to evaluate anti-HIV activity of various chemokines. At present, he is actively involved in teaching biotechnology courses as well as research activities guiding students for their PhD programs. The focus of his research has been on development of nano-particles based novel delivery systems such as virosomes for gene packaging, liposomes, niosome and microspheres for vaccine development, gene therapy vectors, drug delivery systems etc; with a view to increase the efficacy of encapsulated anti-viral, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-protozoal agents against respective diseases. He has been actively associated as an editor/associate editor of several journals, reviewer of several manuscripts and grants per year in his field.He collaborated with one of the world repute multi-national pharmaceutical company, to develop Nano particle based drug formulation for treatment of opportunistic fungal infections under PRDSF program of Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India. He is recipient of many national and international awards including National Bioscience Award and TATA Innovation Award by DBT, Govt of India.
