Haolin Chen was born in Qishan, Shaanxi Province, China, in 1962. He graduated from the Peking University, Beijing, China, with the B.S. degree and received his Ph.D. degree from the Peking Union Medical College, China. After completing his postdoctoral training at the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health with Dr. Barry Zirkin, he joined the group as a research faculty member in 1995. Currently, Chen is an Associate Scientist. His major interest is in male reproductive biology, focusing on the aging of the Leydig cells and their progenitors. He is a Member of the American Society of Andrology, the Society for the Study of Reproduction, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Chen serves as Editorial Board Member for three scientific journals: Open Longevity Science, Asian Journal of Andrology, and ISRN Cell Biology.
