Giancarla Alberti was born in Soresina, Italy on December 26, 1969. She graduated in chemistry with first class honors at the University of Pavia, Pavia, Italy on October 5, 1993. In the same year, she passed the national examination which enabled her to exert the profession of chemist. From 1993 to 1996, she had some collaboration with the Analytical Chemistry Laboratory of the Department of General Chemistry of the University of Pavia. In December 1999, she received the Ph.D. degree in chemical sciences from the University of Pavia. She became a Researcher in analytical chemistry at the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Natural Sciences of University of Pavia on February 1, 2002. Her research focused on investigation on biphasic equilibria between metal ions and solid sorbents of various natures (ion-exchange and chelating resins, molecular imprinted polymers (MIPs), activated carbon, and soils and clays), from different media; speciation of trace metal ions in different natural waters and beverages, using competitive methods based on the sorption on solid sorbents or electrochemical techniques; development of electrochemical sensors/methods for metal ions. The scientific activity of Alberti is documented in 40 papers published in international journals and more than 80 participations to national and international meetings.
